What You Should Know About Colon Hydrotherapy

Colonic Irrigation – How Does it Work?

Cleansing your colon is an important activity for good overall health. Consistently doing so will offer you health benefits in many ways. There are many options to choose from, as far as procedures and products, but one procedure has stood the test of time – colonic irrigation.

It is believed that human beings have been practicing this procedure in some form, since several hundred years B.C. Today, the procedure has come a long way and is a very efficient and somewhat simple process. You should never attempt to perform colonic irrigation on yourself, or have someone other than an experienced licensed practitioner perform one on you. There are potentially serious side effects that can occur if the procedure is not done correctly.

First, the therapist will insert a speculum, (small rubber tube), into the rectum. The tube is usually about six inches long.

It is attached to a hose that is connected to the irrigation machine. The machine heats and purifies the water, then pumps it into your colon. The muscles of the colon react to the fullness it experiences and forces it’s contents out, through the evacuation tube that is also connected to the machine.

Usually, about 25 or 30 gallons of water will run through your colon and you will feel no pain throughout the procedure. Most often, patients report feeling a warm, soothing sensation during the process. Along with fecal matter, toxins, parasites, and various harmful bacteria are expelled. Removing these undesirable elements leaves your colon cleansed, and working much more efficiently.

The entire procedure will not take more than one hour, and is usually finished after about 30 to 40 minutes.

There is some debate about how often you should have procedures done, but most therapists suggest doing it about once every six months. Costs vary, depending mostly on extras like massage and how posh the clinic is so research price before going in.
